Mosaic Car Trash Bin from Laundry Pods Container

My last car was such a mess. This week, I’m picking up my next car and I’ve resolved to keep this one as clean as I possibly can. One way that I can do this is by creating a small trash can so that junk isn’t just lying around the floor of my car. We have tons of these laundry pods containers and I decided to play around with one to see if I could make a cute little trash bin and I think I succeeded! It was a fun and simple project and I think that result is very artistic-looking and different! It’s the perfect size to fit grocery bags that you can reuse, too!

Here’s what you’ll need:
Laundry pods container
Mod Podge
Construction paper
Grocery bags
Paint brush or some kind of brush for Mod Podge
Xacto knife

For the construction paper colors, I used what we had laying around that was already pretty beat up. I wanted to use my favorite colors (blue, pink, and purple!) but the kids had already used up a lot of it.

Instructions:

1. Use the Xacto knife to slice a large oval in the top of the container.

2. Rip up your pieces of construction paper. You can cut them but I think that the ripping looks cooler! I separated mine by color.

3. Paint the glue into the area that you are about to put your paper onto, then paint more over and around it.

4. Overlap the next piece and continue the pattern, making sure not to leave spaces.

5. Go all around the container, in all of the corners and edges, covering each piece before and after. When finished, let it dry.

6. Put the lid on and open. Close the lid over top of the bag so that the lid secures the bag around the edges. I tied it up a little bit in the back of the bin because it was a tiny bit loose.

Voila! You can also put Velcro on it to secure it a bit better so it doesn’t tip over.

  1. Pinning this NOW. This is so creative, and my car always accumulates way too much trash. I absolutely love this.
