Our Christmas 2015 with the Plague

On Christmas morning, I woke up with the most wonderful feeling of all. I looked down and smiled at the beautiful baby resting peacefully on my chest. You see, our season has been a little more hectic than usual. First, the children caught a cold around Thanksgiving. The cough was still lingering when we had our baby and everyone was exhausted. A few days before Christmas, a 24-hour stomach bug started making its rounds and we were relieved that my mom offered to host our usual Christmas Eve dinner instead.

It was over 70° in New Jersey so we had more of a hot and rainy Christmas than our snowy and white Christmas! After watching Christmas Vacation at home, we headed to my mom’s for a nice ham dinner. My husband volunteered to say “Grace” and said the Pledge of Allegiance like Aunt Bethany, which was hilarious to me. We all opened gifts and then half of the clan started to feel sick again so we had to rush out abruptly.

We popped by to see some gorgeous lights on our way home. A lot of people are doing the laser lights this year and I think that they look fabulous. Since I imagine it takes minimal effort compared to stapling 25,000 lights to your house like Mr. Clark W. Griswold, I plan to look into these for us next year! Anyway, once we finally arrived home, the children spread reindeer food in the yard and headed to bed.

After Santa took care of all of his duties in our household, we attempted to go to bed quite late. Little Miss didn’t want to sleep so I put her on my chest, where she often falls asleep immediately, and she did just that! That would be how I woke up with a beautiful baby on my chest. 🙂

On Christmas Day, the children were surprisingly patient waking to open presents. One year my sister and I woke our parents up at 5 o’clock in the morning so I’m pretty thankful that my kids don’t do that!

Santa had left a poem near his cookie crumbs, detailing clues on where the children could find their most special present. In the shed, they were all so excited to find their new motorized Range Rover! Then, everyone enjoyed a scrumptious breakfast made by Daddy.

Christmas 2015 may have hit some bumps here and there throughout the season but we had a great, relaxing time together with family once everything was settled. It was a twist to do things in a more low-key way because of how hectic home life is right now, but I’m very grateful that we were able to change it up! Family is all my holiday season really needs. Though I do look forward to being back to normal, hosting like crazy next year. A cookie swap here and Christmas Eve dinner there. Yum!

  1. Thankfully Ive been the only sick one but I hated going to all of our family’s gatherings sounding like I was spreading the plague lol!! We had Christmas Eve with Hubby’s Dad at our house then Christmas brunch with his mom and her parents and then Christmas dinner with my Mom. The day after we visited my hubby’s grandpa in hospice and then went to celebrate his mom’s birthday with her and then yesterday went to watch the Packers lose (so sad) at my Mom’s!! It was so super busy and crazy but so fun!! <3 I love seeing everyone!

    1. I felt SO GUILTY and my poor mom got sick too, eek! We made sure that she knew we were sick and left it up to her but she said family was just too important and she was willing to risk it. She might be regretting that now though!!

That sounds like a lovely holiday you had!!

  2. Our family always has one person in the family who gets sick on Christmas. This year it was me! I went to the family gatherings anyway. Could not disappoint my Granddaughter but came home and slept until Sunday. This one is a bad one. I am glad you are all better and hope your Mom recovers soon.
