Before I tell you the easiest and cheapest way to get the sticky gunk off of your glass and plastic items, can I just take a moment to rant about this? How have we advanced so far that we have cars that drive themselves and can control lights from our phones, but we haven’t figured out a better way to mark an item than to put a tag directly on it? I’ve got clothing with holes in it from trying to rip off the tags and everything always has a sticky square! I’ve always been kind of opposed to spending money on a product to get it off, I swear there is some kind our conspiracy between the goo remover companies and the stores that put these tags on…
Anyway, so my husband and I had our vow renewal ceremony last month. For our sand unity ceremony, we put our vows inside of a long bottle and poured sand on top of them. The bottle that my husband found was absolutely perfect except for the giant smudge from the price tag sticker. As I was prepping everything, I noticed this big, unsightly sticker on the back and I frantically searched for ideas on what could remove sticky residue. I found a few message forums that suggested something I’d certainly never thought of using…peanut butter.
I thought that maybe this was some crazy thing people put online just to see who would believe anything they read, like I’ve always suspected is true of the coffee potty. Peanut butter sounds like it could easily damage something but I needed an answer fast so I gave it a shot.
I rubbed peanut butter all over the gooey spot where the sticker had been.
I scrubbed it all around as if it were a soap.
After the first application and a warm rinse, it was almost all gone so I decided to apply it again. After a second warm rinse, the bottle was completely clear of all residue. Either I forgot to take another close-up picture or I just can’t find it, but now that it was crystal clear, it was able to serve its function!
This handy dandy little trick will be something I remember for the future! I’ve ruined many glasses trying to scrape off stickers in the past.
