As Thanksgiving approaches, many of you are scrambling to get your houses clean and finish all of the grocery shopping. Those of us who are to be guests at Thanksgiving dinner, we’re thinking of ways to show you grateful we are for sharing your homes and lives with us. At least, we should be! With only a short time left before our special family dinner, I wanted to put something together to show my mother (and stepdad!) how much I care about and appreciate them. I decided on this simple hostess gift, which would be perfect to decorate the table on this lovely day of thanks! Overall, it cost me just a few dollars to make this sweet little gift for them!
I visited A.C. Moore, which has tons of vases, ornaments, glass jars, available for $1. Your local dollar store likely has similar options. I purchased a simple cylindrical vase and some potpourri that was on sale. Using my Cricut, I cut vinyl lettering for the vase. Plain colors are what I have but I strongly feel that glitter would have looked even better, possibly because I am a sparkle addict! If you’d like to use the Give Thanks images I made, click and save it.
Before I knew about this glorious machine called a Cricut, I used stencils and an X-Acto knife for all of my personalizing. I suggest the same if you haven’t yet obtained a Cricut but I highly recommend putting it on your Christmas list because I head over heels in love with mine. Without further ado, here’s my how-to!
What You’ll Need:
Vase or glass jar
Vinyl
Potpourri
Cutting machine or X-Acto knife and stencils
What to Do:
1. Use my Give Thanks images or create your own. I made three separate images because they were to be on three different colors of vinyl. On the Cricut, upload each image separately and mark them as simple images intended for cutting only.
2. If you’re using a Cricut, you can resize and overlap them the way that you’ll want them to look on the glass. Make sure they’ll fit!
3. Cut out all of your lettering and fill your glass with the potpourri.
That’s it, that’s all you have to do! It takes a mere few minutes and you can do more with it depending upon your preferences. I thought about adding a ribbon around it but my husband said he thought it was better as it was. Be sure to wipe it down, mine had a bunch of little grubby paws all over it!
Oh my gosh!! I’m so glad you posted this. I still need to get something for my darling MIL who is hosting! This will be perfect!
How simple and cute!
That’s so cute! I love the two fonts and three colors! My sister has a cricut machine, and I’ve wanted one for so long.
Super cute, I love how the decal turned out!
This is such a great idea, I love the way the vinyl decal looks! I don’t have a vinyl machine, I do have an Exacto knife. Thank you for sharing!
