New traditions are being created every day. You grow up and move to a new home, you take some of your childhood family traditions with you and you start many new ones with your family. Yet, there is one constant who remains unchanged year after year… Jesus! With Christmas approaching, the little elves will begin popping up and big, jolly old Saint Nick will make his rounds. We began the elf thing like so many others but it never really felt right, I wanted to spend less time with the materialistic hubbub of Christmas and more time focusing on our faith in Jesus Christ. When I learned of The Shepherd’s Treasure, I was overjoyed! This mom, also the creator of the Zipadee-Zip, understood just how I felt!

This holiday season, we will be phasing out our elves and our new friend, the shepherd, will take over as he begins on his quest for Baby Jesus. We’ll read the children The Shepherd’s Treasure story and they’ll give the shepherd a name before he begins on his quest. Each day, this adorable shepherd will be on adventure on the quest for Baby Jesus. He can simply be moved around each night after the kids go to bed or he can be found with little activities or treats. (Ideas can be found HERE!) I can’t wait to share our fella’s adventure with you all. I’m really struggling not to tell them about it right now but December 1st is the day when the shepherd is to appear with his book!

We received the advent cards, which will help with lessons for the kids. The advent cards include Bible verses, challenges, encouragement, so many things to put God at the center of our entire season, our entire lives, in our hearts. Each day, the children will wake to see our shepherd enjoying cocoa or bearing a little treat, telling of our Lord’s love and the story of Jesus. Finally on Christ morning, they will find their shepherd kneeling before his treasure, the greatest treasure of all, Baby Jesus.

The Shepherd’s Treasure is a much-needed tradition for Christian families like mine, a tradition that keeps Jesus as the focus for Christmas and for life. The intention of the shepherd is to inspire the children to search for Jesus every day of their lives. I cannot possibly describe how blessed I feel to have been given this tool to keep His teachings active within my children. Thank God for putting this idea into Stephanie’s heart and bringing The Shepherd’s Treasure to our home, holiday, and family.
