A Journey You Have to Go On at The Franklin Institute, Jurassic World: The Exhibition

This is going to be another one of those posts where I have to work hard to contain my enthusiasm and organize my thoughts so that I can be coherent! You see, I absolutely love dinosaurs and then I got my kids hooked on dinosaurs. Jurassic Park hit theaters when I was about six years old and like many, I thought that it was one of the best movies of all time. When Jurassic World came out, I think I watched it several times a week and even now, I wouldn’t turn down a showing of it! Needless to say, when I heard about the Franklin Institute’s Jurassic World exhibition, I was all over it. I already knew that it was going to be good, I was positive of that. I was not disappointed.

It’s been over a decade since I’ve been to the Franklin Institute. My husband had been planning to take us for the longest time and it was so sweet to see how excited he was to finally get there. Since the Jurassic World exhibit has many events inside that run in a timely fashion, you schedule your entry to the exhibit (unless you purchase the VIP tickets!). It takes approximately an hour to walk through everything so we gave ourselves a little bit of prep time to go check out other parts of the museum. The first thing we did when we got in was tour “Your Brain”, which was really educational. The playset that shows the sensors in your brain is such a cool way to display how your brain processes stimulations.

Finally, it was time to head over to Jurassic World. I hadn’t warned the children that we were doing this, I wanted it to be a surprise. As we approached the “boat” to Isla Nublar and they listened to the introduction and the Jurassic Park music, I saw everybody light up with excitement. We entered to see the very large gate with “Jurassic World” at the top and the kids basically sprinted inside before I called them back to get a dinosaur-loving family photo!

The very first dinosaur inside was the huge Brachiosaurus, but no worries because he’s just a friendly herbivore. The way that he moved back and forth, I couldn’t tell if he was on a timer of some sort or there was actually someone controlling him. He seemed to be interactive, like he was responding to our voices and movements, but we couldn’t tell if that was coincidence or not!

I don’t want to spoil everything by detailing every scene and dinosaur within the exhibit but I will tell you that the Tyrannosaurus Rex was the best and also the scariest. My son loves dinosaurs but even he held on tight when the T-Rex came out and did his thing. This guy is realistically huge! There are several sections for the kids to learn, play, and interact with. Also if you’re wondering about that Jurassic World title itself, YES, it is related to the movie itself and some parts will remind you of it!

To address the most commonly asked question since I went: Yes, it is absolutely worth it and I highly recommend going before Jurassic World: The Exhibition leaves the Franklin Institute on April 23, 2017. These animatronic dinosaurs are incredibly realistic and my kids who range in ages from 1-9 were all beside themselves with glee, as were my husband and I. If you have even one aspiring paleontologist in your home, you have to check this exhibit out.

  1. I loved the exhibition. It was truly an amazing experience for me and my family. Since me and my siblings were young, my mother loved the movies and every time one would come out she would play it on repeat every night for about a month till we all fell asleep. It is a memory I will forever cherish.

  2. Omg Jurassic World!!! My 8 year old and I have been wanting to go for so long but we’ve been waiting for little brother to get old enough to enjoy with out being scared because he also love dinosaurs. We are from Dallas/Ft Worth and the exhibit we here not too long ago but we did miss it cause we had another baby brother!!! Hope to visit soon though.

  3. This looks like so much fun. My fiancé is obsessed with dinosaurs. He even missed his big proposal to me he planned at disney because he had to ride the dinosaur ride.

  4. Jurassic Park was a movie that I loved to watch as a young adult. I would love to take my family to Jurassic World so they can experience the dinosaurs and understand what use to be here on Earth.

  5. This looks like an amazing exhibit. I can understand why you were so excited to see it. Even if one was not a huge dinosaur fan it would be interesting to walk through it and educational too.

  6. This looks like a place the kids would like. I am impressed with the exhibits too. Such a fun learning experience!

  7. This sounds like a fun and educational time the whole family can enjoy! Too bad we aren’t anywhere near there 🙁

  8. I live near Universal Studios and Jurassic Park is by far my favorite ride. Have you ever been? However, the level of detail looks more impressive at this exhibit!! I used to live in Philly and I miss the Franklin Institute 🙁

    1. Yes!! I went once as a kid and once last year just my husband and I and we absolutely loved it! It’s one of their best rides, for sure! I <3 dinosaurs.

  9. This looks like a really fun exhibition for the whole family! It sounds like there’s lots of interesting things to do. Kids would love to see all the animatronic dinosaurs!

  10. This reminds me of the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, Alberta which features so many great dinosaur exhibits! We love Jurassic Park & this would be such a fun outing.

  11. Gosh this is such a great exhibit. I only wish it was closer to me. Would certainly take the entire family!

  12. What an adorable bunch! Looks like you had a great time. I would love to experience this, especially with my daughter. I’m not a total dinosaur fan, but I don’t think you have to be to enjoy this. That is important to remember. I never studied them or sought out any information about them, but this… this is so different and I am determined to go there.
