Longwear Lipsticks Challenge: Week One

We’re going to be taking tons of pictures on my vacation and well, I want to look cute. This means that I need long-lasting lip color because there’s not going to be time to re-apply while I’m ziplining through the jungle. After hearing and reading up on a ton of different lipsticks, I managed to narrow it down to around 20 potentially longwearing lipsticks. Alright, I guess that’s not very “narrow” but I’m going to enjoy testing all of these out! Many of these I already owned and had formulated opinions on but I’ll be trying everything over again so that I’m giving every one of them the same type of evaluation.

Each lip product, whether lipstick, stain, or liquid lipstick, will be similarly tested. We’ll see how they hold up to kissing, eating, and the overall result at the end of the day. This is going to be a series of posts because I want to include photographs to back up my reviews and if I put that many before and after pictures in a post, it’ll never load on your end! So stay tuned for more from LipSense, Stila, Younique, Cailyn Cosmetics, and many others! At the end of this lipventure, I’ll do a summary and declare the overall winners!

Maybelline SuperStay 24 Forever Chesnut

Maybelline Super Stay 24 in Forever Chestnut
$10.49

This was one of the least expensive lipsticks recommended to me and I have to say that I’m in love. It’s a liquid lipstick with a lip balm on the other end that’s meant to be applied to keep the texture nice and maintain the longwear capability. I can tell you that I only had to apply the balm once and it was still on almost totally the next day. It never once felt dry to me and remained kiss-proof. I absolutely adore the color I chose and I’m going to be looking into snagging a few more of these before my trip. At this low price (and often on sale wherever you’re purchasing), you really can’t beat this!

Urban Decay Vice ZZ

Urban Decay VICE Liquid Lipstick in ZZ
$18.00

This one felt a little bit dry at first but it wasn’t terrible. It was not kiss-proof and was somewhat faded and patchy after 6 hours. I still thought it looked decent and I was relieved that it didn’t become flaky. The Urban Decay VICE collection is full of tons of gorgeous colors so I would likely buy more of these but probably not for longwear purposes. The pretty colors are worth the need to re-apply!

Sephora Cream Lip Stain Always Red

Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Always Red
$14.00

I’m not normally a red kinda gal but this one came in my Ipsy and I read that it was decent so I gave it a shot. I wore it with some blue and white on Independence Day and I actually think it looked awesome! It’s definitely creamy like the name suggests. It became a little faded on the inside edges of my lips relatively quickly but I still think it looked good, maybe because of the intense color? It was surprisingly kiss-proof after it was dry. I would definitely try this one in other colors because for the comfort of it, it lasted long enough for me.

Wet N Wild Megalast Catsuit Pink Really Hard

Wet N Wild Megalast Catsuit in Pink Really Hard
$4.99

This one just goes to show you that you can’t trust everything you read in a beauty group because everyone has different opinions. Many people raved about the Catsuit, particularly shades of red. I’m glad that this one was inexpensive because I absolutely hated it. The color is absolutely adorable but it felt immediately like all of the moisture was totally sucked out of my lips. I think it was the dryest of all of the lip products I’ve tried. As you can expect with dry lip products, it was kiss-proof. It faded to just about nothing by the end of the evening but I guess that’s better than becoming patchy. I would not buy this again but I would say that the current price is fair. I bet you could improve it massively by putting a lip gloss or balm over top!

pinkreallyhard1Luckily it didn’t look as flaky as it felt!

Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint Rose

Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint in Rose
$20.00

This is another one that came in my Ipsy bag and originally, I didn’t think I would like the color. I’m not as big into nude colors, as you can see by all of my insanely bright pinks. With a name like “paint”, I didn’t have high hopes. To my own surprise, this was one of my favorites. It goes on very smoothly and it never felt dry. It’s also completely kiss-proof. By the end of the day, it was faded but not patchy. The Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint is coming on the trip and while I didn’t go pick out more colors, I’m likely to in the future.

rose2A comfortable, natural and even fade, if there ever was one!

Time for me to go back to screaming, “This one is really kiss-proof!” at my husband before laying one on him! Catch the next installment soon. 😉
