The HERO Campaign HEROtini Happening Finals at Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club

quirky review disc
Every day, 28 people in the United States die in motor vehicle crashes that involve a driver who is under the influence of alcohol. Think of how many lives are affected, not only from death but the pain of the families who have lost someone, the guilt of a driver at-fault, there is so much hurt. The HEROtini Challenge was created to challenge local bars and restaurants to create the best mocktail throughout the summer to support designated drivers and decrease the instances of DUI.
As a non-drinker, I can say that it’s nice to be able to indulge with fun-tasting drinks without the alcohol. When I was in Mexico, none of the bartenders really had a clue how to make a good non-alcoholic beverage besides the basic virgin strawberry daiquiri or piña colada and it really did make being the sober one a little annoying. It also reminded me of all of the baby showers I’ve been to where all of the guests get to drink these fancy drinks and the mom-to-be is over there with an ice water, maybe with a little lemon. Having delicious options is really appealing for those of us who are the designated drivers!

It can also be a lot of pressure being the sober one of the group. I once had someone actually ask me, “How do you have fun?” when I told them that I don’t drink. For me, the flavor is half of the fun and I’m really excited to hear that the experts on drinks are out there coming up with cool drinks for the teetotalers and designated drivers to enjoy! This campaign and challenge is also really near and dear to my heart. It makes me really happy to know that the HERO Campaign is actively trying to come up with ways to discourage drunk driving. I know people personally who have been affected by these tragedies and how wonderful that they’ve spun this meaningful purpose into an entertaining and competitive challenge.
All summer long, customers for the local bars and restaurants have been able to sample the HEROtini Challenge mocktails and vote for their favorites, resulting over 350,000 votes! The top 10 finalists were invited to the HEROtini Happening tomorrow night, September 14th at 6pm at the Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club in Galloway for a panel of judges to determine the ultimate winner as well as those for categories like Best HERO bartender, Most Creative Name, and Best Establishment.
