Valentine’s Day can be such a fun way to celebrate our love. Waking up to roses and a card on the table, snuggling up with chocolate dipped strawberries and a movie, it’s beautiful! While it’s so lovely to have a whole day dedicated to celebrating our special someone, it can’t end there. The film New Life reminds us how important it is to truly love your partner each and every day. Relationships take work year round and we’ve teamed up with New Life to bring you tips for keeping that romance going 365 days a year!

1. Reminisce About When You First Fell In Love

I love to tell the story about when my husband first showed up with my favorite ice creams in hand and I giggled at the sound of his voice. It’s funny to think about how far we’ve come since that day!

2. Continue to Surprise Each Other

Even small surprises, like when my husband comes home from work with my favorite candy, make my heart leap. The fact that he’s thinking about me throughout his day makes me feel important and reminds me just how lucky I am.

3. Apologies Are Important

Sometimes you don’t want to. Sometimes, you don’t feel like you did anything wrong. Apologies and forgiveness should be so much more important than whatever you were disagreeing about. A good point someone once made to me was “Will you remember this subject in a year? If not, it’s not even worth arguing at all right now.”

4. Keep Things Interesting!

It seems crazy to be discussing it but when you’re with one person for the rest of your life, it’s fun to make things different. Go on a date to somewhere you haven’t gone before and yes, change things up behind closed doors. Turn the lights on, buy some nice nighties, whatever floats your boat!

5. Make Time for Each Other

A saying I’ve coined in my home is “You have time for what you make time for.” You can squeeze out time anywhere if you care enough about what you’re making time for. We make it a point to spend time together several hours per week without distractions and I love it.

6. Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

This goes back to whether or not you’ll remember this argument in a year. He leaves his socks on the floor but you buy things you don’t need online. Everybody has their things. If it’s not significant, it’s not worth causing trouble about.

7. Tell Your Partner Why You Appreciate Them

I feel that you should always tell anyone you care about how much you appreciate them. It feels so good just to know that you’re loved and appreciated. I particularly adored this sweet proposal scene in New Life!

8. Be Considerate of One Another

My husband and I have made a rule where we have to go to bed together. There were nights when one of us would be up late and the other would be waiting up or kept awake by lights or the television. When the other person doesn’t consider your feelings, it can make you feel unappreciated or disrespected. Also, nights like the above when you’re both tired, it’s really best not to make things worse by waking your partner! You’re pretty much guaranteed to argue more when you’re exhausted!

9. Deal With Things As a Team

My husband’s saying is that we are a “united front”. For parenting, finances, the battles of life, you have to do things together. After all, two heads are better than one! I feel like we can do anything together as one!

10. Keep Saying “I Love You”

By now, you know that they love you but that doesn’t mean you ever stop saying it. Tell them you love them, tell them how attractive and wonderful they are. Tell them all of the reasons why you fell in love with them and why you still love them today.

MY REVIEW of New Life

New Life definitely made me cry as much as my favorite television drama does week in and week out. I laughed, I cried at the beautiful things, and I cried at the heart-wrenching things. This couple is deeply in love from the time they were children and still they manage to love like new every day. Unlike many love stories I’ve tried to watch, New Life kept my attention and was very cute. There were so many moments that I could relate to and so many from which I could learn. Our church does family and kids movie nights but I think this would be such a good one to do a couples movie night! Overall, I enjoyed New Life and I would recommend it to all of my friends, especially the girls who don’t mind a good cry!
