Thankful Week: Fun

When people think about 2020, I don’t think that the word fun would be an adjective they would use. I have had a fun and incredible year! I’m certainly not thrilled about the state of things by any stretch but I strongly believe in seeking out the good and this was the year for doing just that! Had things not been closed and limited in function, we likely would not have sought out new way to have fun at home. We’ve always loved board games and family movie nights but we took it to a new level this year!

We created our our own movie theatres and invented new games, we hiked and geocached. We don’t need trampoline parks and restaurants to enjoy our time together. Putting your heads together to come up with new entertainment ideas is so much better. Fun brought us closer as a family and I am so thankful for that opportunity.

This year, we have adopted some new traditions. Every night, my husband and I enjoy singing our favorite Disney songs to our preschooler. We play virtual games or board games with our little ones at least once a week. Our movie nights take on themes, complete with special treats and decorations. Our Dungeons & Dragons game caught the attention of every kid because my husband is the best DM ever. We go on actual treasure hunts out in the world, naturally social distanced. It’s not even over, we have so many more ideas that we plan to enact. I am grateful for the new definition of fun in our lives. It has brought us all true joy.

“I am going to keep having fun every day I have left, because there is no other way of life. You just have to decide whether you are a Tigger or an Eeyore.” – Randy Pausch
