“My period is the best, I love it so much!” said no woman ever. At least, I think no woman has ever said that. I do think that there are ways to make it less annoying and that’s different for each individual. Tampons drove me completely insane but I used them for about ten years because I didn’t know that there were other options out there. Disposable pads were like these sticky diapers so I wasn’t too thrilled about them either but disposable products were all I knew.

When I was an adult, friends told me about something called a menstrual cup and I looked into it. It’s this silicone cup that catches everything and I loved it from the minute I started using it. I didn’t have to take it out every time I had to go to the bathroom like I preferred to with tampons. It had to be emptied far less than a tampon needs changing, I loved that too. Finally, my period was convenient. I couldn’t say that I loved it, but at least I could forget about it for most of the day!

Then, we had our missed miscarriage in which a D&E was required because of how far along I was. After your cervix is open due to birth, miscarriage, or a procedure, it is recommended that you do not use anything that is inserted into the body due to the possibility of introducing infection. After spending so much time away from disposable products, I couldn’t bear to turn back. I asked around about “mama cloth”, which are reusable cloth pads that you wash just like cloth diapers (which I was using at the time).

Randumosity by Aayla’s reusable cloth pads are made of flannel or velour, with soft, absorbent, chemical-free, naturally anti-bacterial bamboo batting and PUL inside to make them waterproof. The wings are two layers of flannel that hold around your underwear using smooth polyresin snaps. They are relatively inexpensive, especially compared to the monthly expense of disposable products.

In my experience, the quality of this mama cloth is fantastic. Randumosity by Aayla’s were the first pads that I used after my miscarriage and they were comfortable and absorbent. I didn’t have to feel like I was wearing a diaper on top of all of the other emotions involved, and they were simple to wash. It never bothered me to wash them, just like it never bothered me to wash diapers, because we already wash plenty of craziness in the washer after having kids from blowouts to nosebleeds.

Since I liked Randumosity by Aayla’s so much, I kept using them for heavy days or just days where I wasn’t in the mood to wear my cup. The time came for the birth of one of my babies and I decided to expand my stash to include post-partum. I know some people love those mesh panties and giant disposable pads you get at the hospital but that was just not for me. I’d been through enough and I wanted something that would make me as comfortable as possible. Once again, Randumosity by Aayla’s absorbed well and made life a bit easier to deal with.

My favorite thing about Randumosity by Aayla’s are the prints. Jami, the creator, is really on top of putting out new prints and they’re always so adorable (or cool, as I’d say in the case of “The Walking Dead” comic prints!). Over the years, I’ve bought cupcakes, butterflies, birdies, flowers, and I think even My Little Pony once. This time around, there were two must-haves for me: Alice in Wonderland and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Sure, nobody sees their cuteness but me and who really cares if they are fun prints but heck, why not?! If I’ve got to have the bleeding and take care of it, it may as well be fun to collect and create a stash, kind of like cloth diapers!

My children have seen my Randumosity by Aayla’s pads and they love the designs. I love that they are aware of all of the menstrual products that they can use so they will be able to make the decision that best fits them. Pads were my preference when I was young and if they follow in my footsteps, my oldest could be getting her monthly in a mere two years from now.
