Does Your Life Have a Mission Statement?

Recently, I sat down and wrote a million things to try and figure out a mission statement for my blog. You have to ask yourself questions like “Why do I write?” and “Who am I writing for?” to decide what that mission statement should be. As I sat here pondering my blog’s mission statement, I started to think that it’s funny I’m writing this for my blog but it sounded like something I should be writing for my life, too.

Who am I living for? What do I want to do with my life? How am I fulfilling my purpose here? Without question, I am living for God first, and for my family. I’m a mother, which they say is one of the most important jobs that anyone can have. Creating little people, giving them happy lives but also responsible enough to some day grow up and be productive, respectful members of society. What else do I want to achieve?

There is a pulling desire in my heart to make others feel good. I want to help people turn their burdens into blessings, to see their lives in a positive light. When times are tough for someone, I want to make them laugh or offer an appropriate story with a happy ending. After leading an unhappy life for so long, I just want to show people the way to goodness is attainable. How can I do that? Compliments, positive sentiments, even just a physical embrace or a simple “You’re not alone”.

Private people advise not to share your personal business but I think that it can inspire people. I talk about the path that got me to where I am because it’s ugly and dark. Over ten years ago, I was depressed, angry, a cutter, and my life was laden with poor decisions. As I learned that my happiness was up to me, my life began to turn a corner. Through rough times, the smile wouldn’t fade because I became one of those people who is grateful just to wake up, to be breathing every day. Now that I have this light, I want to shine it for others to find their way. The mission statement for my life would be something like that, at least for right now.

What about you? If your life had a mission statement, what would it be?

  1. I’ve never done one for my life, but I would think that I know what it would be. Perhaps it’s time to write it down!

  2. I have been thinking that is something I need to do – write a mission statement. For my life, for my blog, and for my hopes of a new career/business. It’s amazing how writing a mission statement can give us a new perspective and help us see what God is calling us to do with our lives!

  3. I am not entirely sure what my mission statement would be, but I help animals and people. People pretty much anonymously, as I hate the spotlight and my thoughts are if you give you give without reservation or expectations. Only once, when I won for a shelter (animal) did I get recognized as it was national.

  4. i did when i was much younger thinking about what i was going to do with my life. then my mission came abt 15 yrs ago, when i had to quit my job, move back to my home state and be a full time care giver for my mother for over 13 yrs, til she passed away. since then i have been working with rescues.
