The winter weather is finally hitting here. It’s cold and bitter, I’m nestled under a heated blanket for most of my days and nights. What about the baby? Let’s see, footie pajamas cause her to act like she’s in a prison of fleece that has little sheep on the toes. So, those are out. It’s not advised to use regular blankets with younger babies but since she’s over the age of one so she would be allowed to. The only problem is that she hates them. She thrashes and kicks until the blanket isn’t even touching her. What’s left? A sleep sack and particularly, the Antipodes Merino sleep sack!
Little Miss tried out the Antipodes Merino sleep sack recently and we’re just thrilled with it! The material is 100% natural merino wool and organic cotton and it’s thick but not bulky, warm but not overly so. With the easy reinforced, nickel-free snaps, I was easily able to slide the sleep sack over her pajamas and buckle it. There are no sleeves on the sleep sack, which make it breathable and great for every season of the year. This sleeveless design is useful because it allows for more or less clothing depending upon the temperature of the room. Antipodes Merino even offers suggestions for the clothing layering:
If the Antipodes Merino sleep sack looks big to you, that would be because it is. It’s intended to grow with and fit your child for quite a while, with the age range of 3-24 months. My daughter is 14 months and it fits her wonderfully, with generous leg room. It’s been safety tested and actually helps decrease the risk of SIDS because it’s breathable and replaces a loose blanket.
Since my third child, I’ve felt like sleep sacks are one of the necessary items for moms. You absolutely don’t want to use a loose blanket with a young baby but you want to keep them covered up. The Antipodes Merino sleep sack has a zipper all along the bottom to make diaper changes extremely simple. Also, it’s machine washable, in case you were wondering! It’s easy, cozy, and definitely of a higher quality so I think it will last through many hand-me-downs. Once my little one is finished with hers, we’ll be passing it along to loved ones to use as well. This is my favorite baby sleeping bag that we’ve tried so far and I would highly recommend it as a baby shower gift!
