For my entire life, music has been a passion for me. When I pledged my heart to Jesus three years ago, the Christian genre became my primary source of music. It’s uplifting and reminds you to focus on God’s Word and not the momentary struggles of this world. Every morning, I start my day off with a Christian hits station but I’ve certainly got my favorites… and imagine how excited I was when I found out that the singers of my favorite songs were planning to tour together on the Rise Out of the Dark Tour!
The Rise Out of the Dark Tour stars Danny Gokey, finalist on American Idol, and also Mandisa, another American idol alumna. Also featured on this tour will be Love & the Outcome and Jasmine Murray! Isn’t that a fantastic lineup?!
I met Danny Gokey last year and he left me with some lasting advice, then he went out and put on an awesome show. His voice is just above and beyond beautiful and you can really feel all of the lyrics, the emotion, through his singing. I got to have that wonderful experience and while I knew that I was going to have to see him again, I also longed to give my kids that same opportunity, particularly my seven year old. Since she was itty bitty, you could always find her singing and performing. Back then, it was toy guitars and keyboards, now she takes piano lessons with our church’s worship leader. Currently, she’s learning “Mary, Did You Know?” and big surprise, our favorite version of that song is the one performed by Danny Gokey!
When I told my little girl that she was coming with me to the Rise Out of the Dark show, her eyes lit up and she asked, “Really?!” but then I took it to the next level. First, I played “Unfinished” by Mandisa and waited until she started singing along. Then I told her, “This singer will be there too.” She beamed. Then, I played “Fearless” by Jasmine Murray. “I love this song!” she shouted, knowing what I would say next and repeat for “God I Know” by Love & The Outcome. What a sight, seeing her get so excited about every detail!
This music, these songs that glorify God, she’s going to be right up there listening to them, dancing and singing along. What an amazing moment, what a bonding, teaching, loving experience for her to have. The environment at a Christian concert is out of this world. People are happy and polite, they give off this pleasant vibe. You’re standing in a room full of people worshiping together and it feels like the roof is going to fly off into the heavens. I’m so elated to be able to do this for my daughter and to be able to get to do it myself. Songs that get me through stress, anxiety, troubling times and rough days, I get to hear them up close and personal. I look forward to hearing more nuggets of wisdom and strength to take home, but I most look forward to the lasting memories that are about to be created in my family and in my heart.
I’m focused on the family-friendly aspect of these shows but you could consider also making it a date night with your husband or a girls night out, or maybe even go alone as a pick-me-up if you’ve been having a rough time lately. You’re guaranteed to be smiling, possibly crying tears of gratefulness by the end. I’m a crier so that’s usually what’s happening for me!
