When we first started going to church regularly, it was because our then four year old tearfully requested it. It has been amazing to watch the love for Jesus grow within these children. They pore over their Bible and devotionals, boast of stories they’ve learned at Sunday school, and enjoy sharing everything with their friends. We attempt to encourage it in every way but when we discovered See the Light, we knew we had found a fun approach to Sunday school lessons at home!

See the Light combines ART and the teaching of God’s Word in a way that makes it so entertaining and interactive for kids. We received the 5 Bibles Stories DVD Boxed Set as a gift from our Christian “elf alternative” around Thanksgiving. I have to say that if you have one of these guys and need a gift for him to bring your kids, See the Light is totally perfect! Each DVD contains a Bible story told in a way that the children can understand and illustrated with what appears to be animation done by hand, further driving home that interest in art! After the Bible story, every DVD has a set of art lessons taught by different instructors. There is a list of materials that you may need and step-by-step instructions given as to how to create these fun different art projects. The art lessons are intended for ages 6+ but the stories are good for as young as 3, so these movies will be useful to you for a while!

I love the way that See the Light nurtures my children’s interest in the Bible and also in art. I’m such an artsy person that it excites me to see them want to create things for themselves. We had a great time completing some of the art lessons on the DVDs and it was cute to see everyone’s own variation on what they were seeing in the lessons. My daughters said that they learned a lot of artistic things they had no idea about and that they really enjoyed watching the Bible stories. I’ve paid much more for art classes and I guarantee that my kids learned more through these videos!

Now, I imagine that the name See the Light is a reference to God and our faith but there’s another fun meaning toward the name. See the Light sells mini blacklights to accompany some of the art projects with the stories. The blacklight makes a creation more vibrant and can make other things show up on the page. It’s quite the twist on any art project!

One of the things that I love most about See the Light isn’t just that they are learning art but that because they are doing projects that correlate to the story they just saw, they are retaining the information. For children to draw things that apply to what they learned, they now have an actual picture to reference and recall the information. I feel like doing this throughout the Bible would help children to learn all about God and also have fun while doing it! I would personally recommend these DVDs for personal use but also definitely as a Sunday school tool!
