Quick & Easy Paper Clip Bookmarks

I am enamored with these little buttons that I buy at the big craft stores and I’m always looking for any fun thing to do with them. My kids were thrilled when when I said that there was a very simple way to turn these adorable buttons into bookmarks. I usually use a brand called Dress It Up. They have such a variety of themed buttons and I believe you’ll find them in the clothing section of your local craft store but I know that they’re not with the jewelry I spent an hour looking for them once, thinking that they were necklace/bracelet charms! They could probably be used as such though.

Currently, my stash of Dress It Up buttons consists of ponies, flowers, flip-flops, princesses and their accessories, American flags, snowflakes, Christmas decorations, scarecrows, black cats, ghosts, turkeys, and so much more than that. I would say that I’ve used them the most as hair accessories and oddly enough, never as buttons as they’re labeled! Hopefully, I can share more ideas with you in the future but for now, let’s press on with the easy bookmarks that even your older kids can do themselves (with supervision)!

What you’ll need:
Paper clips
Buttons, charms, or bow centers
Ribbon (optional)
Hot glue gun

How to:

1. If you’re using ribbon for extra pizzazz, cut it to the size you’d want it to hang from your bookmark, starting from the top of the paper clip.

2. Cut off the back of the Dress It Up buttons, if that’s what you’re using. I just use a scissors against the back and snip!

3. Glue your ribbons to the top of the paper clip with a hot glue gun. I crossed mine over each other but I’m sure there are plenty of little designs to do! Make sure the side that clips is facing down so it can clip the page.

4. Once the ribbons have dried, glue the embellishment in the center top of the paper clip.

5. Be sure that all visible areas are glued so it won’t wiggle or fall off. Let it dry completely before applying it to a page!

  1. The ponies are sooooo adorable. My kids would love them. We ALWAYS need bookmarks. And, my kids are always stealing my paper clips from my desk to play with, so we can kill 2 birds with one stone.
