The first ever birthday celebration for your baby is always special. That first year is filled with many milestones, so many memories. Children grow quickly but in that year they grow so much and it all passes in the blink of an eye. The first time you snuggled them, fed them, the first smile, the sound when they giggled for the first time… the bittersweet excitement is a feeling I’ll never forget long after my babies are adults. To celebrate this momentous occasion, we have thrown a big first birthday party for each of our children. Our Little Miss will be turning one later this year and the planning has begun.

On Saturday, June 25th from 11am-12pm, all Babies“R”Us stores nationwide will be hosting a Baby’s First Birthday event. The event will offer parents the best solutions for the big celebration, fun activities like story time, photo props, decorating a Geoffrey the Giraffe growth chart, and participation in giveaways! I went over to our local Babies“R”Us and had a nice chat with their event planner, a woman named Sam who has worked there for 19 years and clearly takes pride in her party planning! She showed me this beautiful diaper cake that she made for the Baby’s First Birthday event and gave my kids little crowns as a sneak peek of what’s to come next weekend! I’d say that for planning your baby’s huge first birthday party, Babies“R”Us has the right people on board to give you tips!

I will be throwing my sister’s baby shower that day, so I imagine that we can go to the next one together since it’s never too early to start planning for that first big bash!

Babies“R”Us has an entire section on the website dedicated to first birthday gift ideas, keepsakes, etc. and I had no idea! It’s such a helpful resource to have when you’re preparing for the big day! You can also sign up for Geoffrey’s Birthday Club there, my kids get a kick out of receiving cards from Geoffrey every year.

I spent forever just navigating the first birthday suggestions for my little girl, checking out birthday party supplies and apparel. There was so much I liked that I ended up creating a wish list of things for my baby’s birthday! I loved the “Birthday Girl” tutu dress that I saw in-store but they didn’t have our size so I’m ordering it!

People often ask about where the best place is to hold the first birthday party. We’ve had four so far so I feel like I can offer some tips on this! With my oldest, we did the party at home. We had a cake and a cookie cake, balloons, decorations, and it was mostly just my family and friends. With my now six year old, we went to a local touch museum with my nephews and family. The children’s museums are wonderful for the little ones and their party packages are usually pretty decent! For my third daughter, there was a local indoor play facility that was absolutely perfect for one year olds!

When my son had his first birthday, we decided to use the local indoor gym. They have foam pits, trampolines, all kinds of things that require a parent’s help and supervision, but still quite fun for the little one! We always do the small “smash cake” for the baby to make a mess with. My son covered himself in it but surprisingly had absolutely no interest in actually eating the cake itself.

This year we are planning to have my baby’s first birthday party at a gymnastics facility again. I really like the Minnie 1st Birthday goodies that I found while perusing the Babies“R”Us birthday section. No matter where you have the party, you can spruce it up with the right party supplies!

My favorite birthday party tip would have to be for thank you cards! Take pictures throughout the party and then get them printed, writing a little “thank you” note on the back of a picture of the corresponding guest! It saves money and it’s more personal, something they can save!
