The Beauty I See In LASIK and Eye Care with EyeCare 20/20

lasik disclosure

It’s been three months since my LASIK eye procedure. Before Thanksgiving, I could count the fingers you were holding in front of my face and that’s about it. I’m ecstatic to tell you that I’m now able to clearly discern letters on a wall from across the room. My vision is 20/20 now and it’s still unreal to me! I honestly wish I trusted to do this much sooner but like many of you, I had so many questions and misconceptions that left me dragging my feet. I wanted to offer the opportunity for you to learn more about LASIK so I actually sat down with Dr. Silverman last week to give you more information!

The biggest thing I was worried about was that I would go blind. If you get your LASIK done in a back alley van, sure, that might be a very real possibility but Dr. Silverman has actually operated on some of the most famous athletes in the country and I knew I could trust him with my tiny blogger mom eyeballs. I’m obviously extremely happy that I did! It’s actually been documented that some companies will offer a special, “more affordable” LASIK but then when patients are examined, they’re told they don’t qualify for the cheaper version. I love that I’ve got a doctor I can trust who’s willing to tell it to me straight and give me top quality care!

With a busy life, it was important to know that I wouldn’t be out of commission for long. Since LASIK is a very quick procedure with almost immediate recovery, I was fine to get right back to parenting, working, driving, and living. I dealt with no pain and pretty great vision nearly right away, so I wouldn’t even call it a recovery!

Another hesitation involved the idea of eventually needing reading glasses. As a person ages, they tend to need reading glasses. LASIK doesn’t remove the effects of aging. If you were going to need reading glasses, you may still need them. That fact wouldn’t change with contact lenses either. The truth of it is that I bought myself at least ten years of hassle-free living before I may need reading glasses when I sit down to throw myself into a book. More importantly, I’ll still be able to see the birds in the distance and who I’m talking to when I have a conversation. In my previous life, if I forgot my glasses, I would have to hold someone’s hand to get anything done at all. After LASIK, that will never be my reality again.

Whether you venture out to get LASIK or not, I want to remind everyone how important eye care itself is. Your eyes are so important. You can view a sunset or see a falling star, you can gaze upon your children’s faces in the morning. The eyes are the window to the soul, as they say! They do feel the effects of aging and your daily activities. They become strained, they get older, they change, or even get sick and infected. Make it a priority to get your eyes routinely checked by a professional, like Dr. Silverman, to keep them in tip top shape. Take proper care of the part of your body that grants you the ability to see the world.

I’ll never truly be able to express how free and joyful I feel having clear vision. Every time I pack for an overnight trip and there are no glasses, contacts, contact cases, and lens solution, I smile. I actually used to imagine scenarios where I lost my contacts and had to continue a vacation with partial vision. I don’t need any extras to live my life anymore, I’m just ME now!

  2. I thought about having the LASIK done before but never got any information on it. This is definitely something I would like to have done.

  3. I know how great you must feel after having your LASIK surgery and now having 20/20 vision. My son had it done and it is amazing.
