Math is completely different than I was a kid. Also, I don’t really have the best memory for teaching it because at this point, I just know what I know and sometimes don’t even recall how. I never realized how often I would be expected to relay the information I’d learned to my kids. I was in an advanced math class starting in third grade but nowadays, I’m lucky if I can remember my own name so I worry about how much I can help them at home. My oldest daughter is going into fifth grade but with her math learning disability, she still struggles with her basic multiplication and my second daughter is advanced heading into third grade, so she already understands multiplication and some of it memorized. Both of them are at just the right level to take advantage of the Times Tales DVD program!
Times Tales is a math program that aides the memory with patterns and creative lessons in order to help your child memorize their multiplication facts. My ten year old has ADHD as well as a math learning disability so repetition and memorization are important for her. This program is a fun way for her to catch on to these basic facts that she needs to know before she can move on to division and other aspects of mathematics. She watches it more often to help her remember, since it takes her a bit longer to process, but it doesn’t feel like work to her because it’s a video of stories. Times Tales contains stories with characters that represent the numbers and a game show that quizzes them on what they’ve learned thus far. You can also print out tests, games, and flash cards to further the lesson.
My seven year old was given extra work sheets throughout her second grade class because she was bored with the lessons. She knew all of what they were learning and she was ready to move on. The teacher recognized this and sent her home with work sheets so she was doing multiplication before the rest of the class. Times Tales was really fun for her because she was able to expand upon that learning in an entertaining way. She watched the video on her own and was very excited to report to me that she’d passed all of the quizzes on the DVD for multiplication and even the ones for division. She said that the stories helped her remember the fact families because the parts of the stories all represented numbers so as she followed along with the stories, she was able to remember. She’s currently standing next to me and telling me all about it and getting each fact right. I’m really excited to see how she fairs in third grade now that Times Tales has made her an expert!
Math isn’t the only thing the Trigger Memory Company has mastered! It’s a chore just to get the kids to do their chores. Every conversation results in whining and reluctance. Zone Cleaning for Kids actually makes cleaning sound fun because there’s a system to it. Breaking the chores apart into zones makes it feel like less work all at once. In a household of five, messes can get out of control very quickly so it’s nice to have the helping hand, especially during the summer when everyone’s taking out a lot of things to play! After I played the instructional DVD, everybody rushed out to get their jobs done. We gave each child a zone to take care of and they headed straight for it. That was unbelievable and good news for me! I’m planning on starting up allowances if we can keep the habit going!
