Bonding Over Building at the Philadelphia LEGOLAND Discovery Center

My love for LEGOs is tremendous. If you’ve been with us for the last couple of years, you know that I declared that I didn’t care what gender I was having as long as they liked LEGOs. I played with dolls with the kids last week and let’s just say that I still 100% feel this way about LEGOs and only LEGOs. I need LEGOs in my life. They are the toy for parents and for kids, the toy that can bring us together! So of course, I was thrilled when I found out that we have a LEGOLAND Discovery Center somewhat close to me, in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania.

The LEGOLAND at Plymouth Meeting is a discovery center that’s inside of the gorgeous and large Plymouth Meeting Mall, not too far from Philadelphia. Right outside, we were greeted by a life-sized giraffe made of–you guessed it–LEGOs. Inside, we started with a welcome train called the Imagination Express that doubled as an interactive game. We used a magic wand attached to the cart that we pointed at things to magically make them disappear, open, or whatever the situation called for. The cart tallied up our scores and two of the kids were absolutely thrilled that they BEAT ME!

My little ones immediately ran to the Build & Test spot where you could build your own car and then race down a slide to see which of you would win. I’ll admit, I tried a few times. If I build a car that’s faster than me, don’t I still win because I built it? I say yes. The baby could have spent pretty much the entire time at this spot and she was trying to race more than one car at a time!

Much of the LEGOLAND Discovery Center was separated by theme. There were LEGO Friends, Ninjago, LEGO City, even Duplo with a bubble machine for the little ones! The LEGO Friends section had life-sized LEGO Friends characters with a spot in the middle for kids to build their own LEGO Friends town in shades of vibrant pinks, purples, and blues! The kids were thrilled to have LEGOs their own size but I’m just glad nobody asked me for one for Christmas. I can’t imagine all the time that must be spent building all of these awesome characters!

Speaking of phenomenal building structures, there is an entire room of Philadelphia structures called MINILAND. There’s an incredibly accurate football stadium, a stage and band that actually play music, the water with moving boats, and so much more. It’s really impressive and lit beautifully. I could tour cities like this for days and the kids loved playing with all of the interactive pieces in it!

LEGOLAND

Pirate Adventure Island is an indoor climbing play place that goes up to the ceiling! Due to the size limitations and sock requirement, only a couple of the kids got a chance to check this one out but they spent a good deal of time in there! Shortly after, they headed to the LEGO Ninjago Training Camp Laser Maze and I didn’t get a chance to see but it sounded SO cool! It’s a room with lasers and fog that tests their ninja skills and everyone can see their scores on the outside, creating a real challenge for the next competitor!

LEGOLAND

Every fifteen minutes or so, there’s a 4D movie playing in the cinema. All of us sat together to catch both of the movies, one featuring The LEGO Movie gang and the other with the Ninjago characters! My husband said it was the best presentation of a 4D movie he’s seen so far, especially in the front row, and I think it was the first ones the kids had ever seen. The water and fog coming out really made everything real for them!

LEGOLAND

There are more building experiences than the ones I’ve covered here but there was definitely plenty for the kids to do! After you’re finished playing there’s a gift shop full of LEGOs from just about every collection, plus other LEGO gear. Another great thing is that you’re in the mall so if you’re hungry afterward or looking for more activities, there’s still plenty more in the area to do. It’s certainly something you can make a day of! My son had been begging me to take him to LEGOLAND Discovery Center for nearly a year, so I’m really happy to have been able to surprise him with this wonderful experience for his birthday!
