It’s never too early to start building a foundation on God’s Word. From an early age, I’ve taught my toddler about God and how to pray but I feel like when they are this young, they need pictures and specific methods of learning to keep them interested. My toddler was so excited when I introduced The Beginner’s Bible First 100 Bible Words into our reading sessions. We do have children’s Bible stories but I feel like they can still be rather long and the average toddler’s attention span is less than ten minutes.
The Beginner’s Bible First 100 Bible Words is a collection of words throughout the Bible that a toddler can become familiar with. Each set of pages has a theme that the words are associated with, like “David and Goliath”. The vibrant pictures that apply to the words really seem to help her understand. She’s only three. At this point I’m able to briefly explain to her how these words have to do with the theme but even as wee little ones, I think it’s great to start giving them that word association young. There are also a variety of concepts it helps with, like colors, shapes, words, and numbers.
I was actually beside myself the first time we read The Beginner’s Bible First 100 Bible Words because my toddler wanted to guess at what all the words were and she got “staff” on the “Moses Leads His People” page. I thought that was a pretty difficult word for a toddler to already know and I didn’t even know she knew it! I think she was pretty proud of herself too!
Because it’s small and hard (a board book), I don’t mind that she loves to bring it everywhere. So it’s perfect to bring to all of your summer picnics and parties to keep the kids occupied! I also think it’s a great gift idea for new babies so parents can begin bonding with them over the Word from a young age. So far, this is the only book we’ve found of its kind that’s geared toward the very, very young kids and truly captures their interest. She takes it from me a lot to go “read” on her own and at this point, she’s basically memorized the book!
