Designing the Perfect Date Night with Nailed It DIY Studio in Marlton

disclosure product

Painting and pottery places have been all the rage in the last few years and I’ve joined in on the trend, even throwing my 30th birthday at one. I always love the experience but I was on the hunt for something fresh and new. I literally jumped for joy when Nailed It DIY in Marlton popped up in my Instagram feed.

Nailed It DIY is a custom DIY workshop where they will teach you how to create the coolest projects ever. You can choose a preset design and they’ll have all of the materials ready for you, or you can start from scratch, choosing which piece of wood you’d like to work with and what you want to put on it. Simply put: It is AWESOME.

CHOOSING A PROJECT

Let me walk you through our DIY experience. Instead of the same old blah date night of dinner and a movie, we decided to create lasting memories while creating projects to decorate our home. The list of projects is pretty sizable, from first day of school boards to serving trays to towels. Hubby picked out the menu board complete project while I knew I needed something entirely customized. When customizing, you can choose from a list of stencils or personalize it completely. With our big relocation coming up, I wanted to try to recreate some of the ideas I’d seen on Pinterest where you represent the state you came from and the state you relocated to.

nailed it

*An important thing to keep in mind is that if you’re doing a custom design, you’ll need to submit it a week or more ahead of a party or three days ahead of a single seat booking. The wonderful Mandie works her magic to perfect it and make it into a stencil, then sends you a proof 24 hours ahead of time to make sure it’s to your liking!

So after Mandie turned my meh idea into gorgeousness, I approved the proof and we headed off to Marlton to make it happen! Since it’s a BYOB spot where you can bring snacks and refreshments while you create, we popped into some of the local shops for some grub. It’s actually a phenomenal location in Crispin Square because there are a bunch of food places from which to stock up!

THE STUDIO

The Nailed It DIY Studio is incredibly inviting. It’s got bar-style seating in a U shape so your instructor can stand on one side and help you out, and you and your fellow creators can sit next to each other and chit-chat while you work. I love the entire decor; the barn door that leads to the party room, the selection of wood bases on the side, the display of paints, and even examples of how the techniques will look when finished. It’s just so organized and helpful!

So the first thing we did was get our pieces of wood and put them down on the table. Then, we chose the techniques we wanted to use on our wood. Hubby chose “chip it” and I chose “beach it”. The techniques range from painting multiple colors to brushing it a certain way and even sanding the painted wood. After sanding our wood ourselves, we were able to get to work on the techniques.

“Chip it” required my husband to actually paint two colors and then chip his project with the sander! I would say that technique is a little more advanced but with Mandie’s step-by-step instructions, you’d think he was nearly an expert! Mine was a bit simpler, a variety of colors and brush strokes with a touch of stain at the end.

After the wood is painted, it’s stencil time! Mandie put our stencils on perfectly and you know what, don’t tell me that you’re not a painter because ANYONE can lightly sponge paint a stencil! You’ll be shocked at how great your project looks after the big reveal!

One of our favorite things about Nailed It was actually that you get to take your projects home with you. At other places, we’ve had to wait for things to be baked or have an extra coat of something added to them, whatever the reason. I constantly forgot to pick up pieces or struggled to find time to get them later. At Nailed It, just take your stuff home and put it right on the wall if you want!

I’m absolutely THRILLED with the experience and my end result. We had SO much fun and I’m excited to hang it on the wall. I still have so many ideas to execute. I can’t wait to go back with friends and the kids! This would honestly be my #1 birthday party choice in the area and I’m positive that the kids would have an absolute blast! I think we’ll all really enjoy making Halloween decor and Christmas gifts for the upcoming seasons. How fun!
