Super Hero Week 1 at #CampWarnerBros

*Coverage of the Camp Warner Bros campaign done in partnership with WB. We received this movie free of charge in exchange for sharing details about this virtual summer camp. All thoughts and opinions are our own.

Week one for our virtual summer camp, Camp Warner Bros, has officially taken off! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no wait, it’s me trying to find ways to keep my kids entertained through pandemic summer!

This week’s theme is brought to us by LEGO® DC: Shazam! Magic and Monsters! In this animated movie, 10-year-old Billy Batson transforms into Shazam!, a GROWN UP super hero! Billy is afraid to reveal to the other super heroes that he is only a child but while fighting off evil, he realizes that he needs to learn to trust others. It’s very funny, just like all of the LEGO films, and also action-packed! The kids absolutely loved it!

So, our focus is on our little super hero boys and girls and we’re going to work on some simple super hero training. In the video below, Batman will walk us through some super hero training disguised as games like “Batman Says” and “Super Hero Freeze”!

We’re big on writing prompts in my house, ever since school became virtual. Our very first writing prompt actually encouraged the kids to imagine themselves as super heroes and tell us about what they could do. Everyone wrote a small essay and drew their hero. I have to suggest this as an awesome activity to do at home, even with the little ones!

In the Batman Workout video, he concluded with “Take all your power and do something great with it!” I thought this was a fantastic prompt to ask the kids this question:

“Super powers or not, what would or will you do to make the world better?”

I’m really proud to say that all of my children chose powers that we have NOW as humans. My oldest said that she wants to be a teacher so that she could help people to learn things. My second daughter wants to use her power to fight racism. My third daughter wants to take care of animals and my son wants to be a police officer so that he can help people. I feel like this is a great opportunity to teach kids that we are kind of like super heroes and we can make a difference right here where we stand!
