We have no shortage of animals in this wee little beginning of a homestead, but we’ve also got no shortage of love. All of our babies are happy and healthy, wonderful parts of our family. Mickey Kitty snuggles with our youngest every night. The ferrets make everyone giggle as they watch them play and hop. The sweetest thing my children ever argue over is which of them get to sleep with which pets. Our pets have truly filled our lives with love and joy. Each pet has its own personality, its own interests and things it does with us. Cotton loves to play ball and swim (but not kayak, as we learned!). Woody is very laid back and just enjoys quietly snuggling. Dandy is a curious oaf who loves to run and play.
As much I love hiking, I don’t want to do it alone. I went hiking with a friend who often went alone with her dog and I realized that I needed a canine hiking partner. I researched all different breeds and left myself with a list of breeds that I felt would be perfect to hike with. Then, Riva popped up in my Facebook feed. She is a Texas Heeler, which is a mix of an Australian Shepherd and an Australian Cattle Dog. She is currently 11 weeks old and I’m working with training her, as well as getting her used to going everywhere with me! She hasn’t had all of her shots yet so it’s important not to put her down in public places, but I bring her with me on car rides or once even in a sling at a festival like some kind of weirdo.
Introducing a new puppy to your home can be tough. You’re removing them from the Mama and siblings they’re used to and bringing them into a world of different people and scents.
