Ahhh, I’m incredibly excited about a convention close to home! The Atlantic City Boardwalk Con is back for its second year and I’m going to be there!! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it last year so I have been stalking the DoACBC website all year, just watching and waiting for the dates and to see who would be making guest appearances!

 

The line-up is awesome, no surprise there! Giancarlo Esposito played a phenomenal villain on Breaking Bad and RJ Mitte was a great Walter Jr. For the ladies out there digging Orange is the New Black, you’ll know Taryn Manning as the Pennsatucky we all love to hate. To my favorite show, however, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is where my allegiance lies. Edward James Olmos, who was the coolest technically non-existent villain ever in Dexter, was Agent Gonzales in S.H.I.E.L.D.. Agent Melinda May, Ming-Na Wen, is truly the best female character on the show. My husband calls her “the brawn” but she’s so much more than that. She’s a rock, she’s reliable, she’s fast and crafty! Not to mention, Ming-Na Wen did a great job playing her own enemy, Agent 33, in past seasons. She’s a hardcore and integral member of S.H.I.E.L.D. and I’m eager to meet the woman behind her!

THIS JUST IN: Rosario Dawson will be appearing on Saturday!! You’ll know this beautiful woman as the nurse, Claire, in Daredevil and Jessica Jones. She was also in Men in Black II (I’m sorry to everyone who doesn’t agree with me but I loved every MIB movie), Clerks II, Sin City, and she’s doing the voice of Elaris in the upcoming Ratchet & Clank animated movie.

The celebrity guest list isn’t the only appealing thing about the Atlantic City Boardwalk Con, though! Despite that fact that kids under the age of 9 get free admission with their parents, my husband insisted that we don’t bring our gang so that we can have a sweet day of geeking out together (with the baby, we don’t leave that little monster yet!). For the families bringing along your children for the action, don’t miss the Kidz Zone! The Kidz Zone will have free coloring, a bounce house, kid-friendly photo backdrops, games, and live characters. I’m strongly considering coming up with an awesome costume for my five month old to enter the Kids Only Costume Contest on Sunday! My husband and I can get pretty creative with costumes, after all, I made my comic book version of Mystique out of old hand-me-down clothes and dollar store decorations in 2014!

If you’re lucky enough to make it out without any kids, I think that the CONquest Live Game Show sounds spectacular! I’m a sucker for game shows, it’s true. You’ll be separated into teams to play an arena style game show. These are the things I look forward to when I have no more itty bitties. I’m personally not into drinking and bars, partying at comic convention game shows, that’s where it’s at!

The ACBC Garage showcases some of the coolest vehicles in the comic and sci-fi universe, including Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park, and Back to the Future!

The ACBC Cosplay Photo Studio gives you the opportunity to use free backdrops to capture your experience! You can also schedule a photo shoot with an ACBC photographer if you’re looking for something more professional!

One of the things I love most is the Celebrity Spotlight, an opportunity to meet and/or get autographs from the guest celebs. It’s usually a separate fee and varies depending on which stars you’d like to see but it’s totally worth it. Keep watching the guest list as it changes based on availability of the person. Sometimes they get added to the list last minute, can only do one day, or can’t make it due to schedule changes. Any regular convention-goer knows this is par for the course at all conventions!

Another feature you can’t miss are the Panels & Workshops! Q&As with some of the celebrity guests about their experiences, several cosplay how-tos, and TONS more!
