29 of My Favorite Things by The Quirky Mom Next Door

The 29th birthday is the last one, according to things I’ve heard ladies say since I was a small child. Well, here it is! I’m finally there! How do I feel about it? AWESOME! I feel incredibly young, vibrant, and most importantly of all, HAPPY! I’ve got my faith, good marriage, five beautiful children, and a positive attitude. My husband likes to joke that I’m old but I feel like I have so much life left ahead of me and I know that life ebbs and flows but I’m just so happy to have like 90 more years of this wonderful life! Oh, yeah I’m going to live until I’m 119, guys!

In celebration of my 29 years on God’s great earth, I wanted to share more about me and what I love! *Please note that my favorite things are subject to change and also that none of this post is sponsored or anything of that nature. I mean, if you want to pay me for promoting your stuff, we can call it a birthday gift. (Just kidding.)

So here it is, 29 of my favorite things in absolutely no particular order!

1. Actor: This answer always was and always will be Robin Williams. For laughter, for tears, for moving performances and accurate portrayals, Robin Williams.

2. Drink: It would be a tie between Chick-Fil-A lemonade and V8 Fusion Energy drinks, the latter being something I drink every day.

3. Restaurant: The Melting Pot! If you have never been to this place and you enjoy cheese and/or chocolate, I must highly recommend it! For your appetizer, you dip veggies in cheese. The entrée is cooked by you in broth in the middle of the table, I always get steak. Dessert is, you guessed it, melted chocolate with things like strawberries and brownies to dip in it!

4. Movie: Jurassic World. I don’t know what my deal is but I am addicted to this movie. I loved Jurassic Park, we grew up on that and of course, it was the best. I love this one more, maybe because it’s newer thus has better special effects, but I have watched it like 500 times.

8. Makeup product: Urban Decay’s Moondust Palette which is incredibly shimmery and has some of the most gorgeous colors I’ve ever seen. This was love at first sight.

9. Song: “O Come to the Altar” by Elevation Worship moves me every time and we walked down the aisle to an instrumental version for our vow renewal.

10. Store: I love A.C. Moore because I am a craft buff and they are from South Jersey! If you haven’t heard of this store, it’s a craft store along the east coast and they have everything I need for all the things I love to do.

11. Candy: Zours. They’re basically sour Mike & Ike’s. Also, anything from Godiva.

12. Outdoor activity: Rollerblading! I feel like nobody rollerblades anymore…but I do! Party like it’s 1999 with my walkman on and everything (okay, not really).

13. Sport: Basketball, while it doesn’t seem very popular, is my favorite sport to watch and to play! I’m not good at it but it’s quite fun!

14. Toy: LEGOS, duh. There is no toy quite as wonderful as LEGOS!

15. Book: I almost didn’t include this one because I love so many books that I truly struggle to pick a favorite. The Harry Potter series would likely have to take the cake. Don’t make me choose a favorite from the series though, that would be too tough.

16. Shoes: To understand me as a person, I feel like the answer is really walking in my shoes. I don’t do heels. I do boots or sneakers in the fall but I’m madly in love with sandals (unless barefoot is an option!) and on recommendation from one of my cousins, I began buying Earth Spirit sandals from Wal-Mart and have every year! They’re comfortable, they’re cute, and they’re inexpensive.

17. Recipe: This probably changes weekly but right now, it’s my husband’s ham and potato soup, which has only become better and better over time. I’m eating it as I type this post!

18. Quote: “It’s never too late to live happily ever after.”

19. Flower: Lilies, lilies, lilies! We grow them in my yard, I had them in my bouquet for my vow renewal, and I have a lily of the valley tattooed on my wrist!

20. Dessert: It’s easily ice cream but I could make an entire list of my favorites. Olive Garden has these dessert samplers that are amazing, a picture of the apple chimicheesecake from Applebee’s literally used to hang on my wall as a teenager (told you I’m weird and also a dessert enthusiast), and obviously the desserts at The Melting Pot are delicious too.

21. Car: The Chevrolet SSR is an odd car to love, I suppose, but I guess that’s what I love about it. It’s weird! My second favorite is a Mini Cooper, which I’m sure you’ve seen because those are popular ever since the movie, The Italian Job. I drive a minivan, that is my least favorite car. Haha!

22. Comic book character: Deadpool because he’s hilarious and crazy!

23. Comedian: I honestly love Daniel Tosh but this is a family-friendly blog so I will mention some of my other favorite comedians: Gabriel Iglesias aka Fluffy, Jim Gaffigan whose homebirth jokes are spot-on, and Joe Machi who should have won the last season of Last Comic Standing! I met Joe a couple of years ago and he was as nice as you’d expect!

24. Game: I love Scattergories and Cards of Humanity is hilarious. As far as video games, it always has been and always will be Super Mario for the Super Nintendo. I own Super Mario for my Wii but it’s just not the same!

25. Disney character: The Chesire Cat is weird and has a gigantic smile, just like me, so I’ve always related to that crazy cat! Plus, he’s two of my favorite colors.

26. Song lyrics: “It don’t matter if it’s raining, nothing can phase me. I make my own sunshine!” -Alyssa Bongura ‘I Make My Own Sunshine’ This isn’t a song I regularly listen to BUT they are lyrics I live by!

27. Date with my husband: For my birthday a couple of years ago, we went to the Chart House in Atlantic City and then had VIP passes to meet all of the Last Comic Standing finalists and the entire night was fun and laughter. I was nicknamed “Intelligent” by the VIP host and I accidentally introduced myself to by my Twitter handle to Lachlan Patterson. I was high on that night for weeks! Like my husband says, “it’s all about the company” and we have such a blast together.

28. App: If you haven’t already guessed it from this post, it’s Instagram! I know there are other, more elaborate apps for social media, but I like the way it’s set up, the filters, and the interaction with other people. Facebook statuses are boring, Instagram photos are lovely to look at! If we’re going for a functional app, I LOVE Zuli, the app that turns my lights on and off.

  1. I enjoyed reading your list. I’ve always had trouble making a list like that. I just have too many favorites. I must tell you I am quite envious of the fact you had the chance to meet the contestants from The Last Comic Standing. (the finalists). I watched that season and sure do remember both Joe and Lachlin. Was that the year Rodman won? I watched it for 2 yrs. I believe. Some of the finalists did do a show close to my hometown but the tickets were too expensive for my budget. I have seen Rodman on The Comedy Central since then. I miss the show and wish it would air again. Thank you for your list. And Happy Birthday!!

    1. Darcy, thanks! Yes, that was the year Rodman won! I have desperately missed the show but they keep cancelling it and bringing it back so I’m not sure if it’s done for good or not. The last season was not nearly as good as the one prior, they changed around the way the individual challenges went!
