DIY Disney Sneakers and Advice From My Favorite Disney IGs

Over the last year of planning for Disney, I’ve been collecting and organizing all kinds of things to try to make our stay with FIVE kids go smoothly. (Fact: Anything with five children rarely goes smoothly. Ha!) On my personal Facebook page, I crowdsource the Disney opinions of my friends and hashtag the question so I can reference it later if need be. If you’re ever wondering where I get all of this Disney info when I haven’t been there in 18 years, know that it’s a combination of research, crowdsourcing, and some of my favorite Disney bloggers and Instagrammers.

Brooks Adrenaline GTS are a lightweight running shoe highly regarded for comfort and recommended for Disney walking!

One of the best and most sensible pieces of advice I received from all of my friends was to “wear comfortable shoes!” Disney World involves a lot of walking (at least 20,000 FitBit steps!) and the last thing you want is to have feet that are killing you by the end of the first day. I received recommendations for all different types of shoes from basic sneakers to flats. The most commonly recommended shoe was the Brooks Adrenaline GTS, a breathable and lightweight running sneaker.

So, I bought a white and grey pair of Adrenalines but I felt like they needed a little bit of Disney theming to it! I grabbed my multi-use Disney Dress It Up buttons like the ones I used on my savings bank. (I included a link to them on Amazon but I highly suggest checking your local craft stores first because they’re much cheaper!)

With just a strip of yarn and a few tight knots, I managed to add cute little Disney accents to my new shoes! It would have been a lot easier to slide them onto the shoelaces but the loops in the back are just a bit too narrow to fit over the plastic piece on the end of most laces. I thought this might make a really adorable and simple DIY for the kids as a touch of extra magic!

DISNEY ADVICE

If I’m having a tough day, scrolling a feed full of the Cinderella Castle and Spaceship Earth just makes everything better! I’ve grown rather fond of my Disney IG friends and I trust them with so many of my Disney advice questions! I asked for their absolute most important Disney World advice and here’s what they told me:

Mainstreetmae says “Have a schedule, but remember to be flexible; stop and watch a parade or fireworks, enjoy the spontaneous moments.
Memory Maker/Photopass is a must, best souvenirs ever! Worth every penny. You get lots of family photos with everyone in the shot! Photographs are professional and high quality.”

Yellowbeadsandme‘s favorite piece of Disney advice is “you cannot do everything in one trip. I think beginners get very overwhelmed trying to squeeze everything in at once! Pick and choose what’s most important to you and your family.”

Picturing Disney tells us “don’t miss Story Time with Belle if you have young kids. A lot of people walk by it in Fantasyland and miss out in a lot of fun. I have an entire post on it. It’s also the only guaranteed place to see Belle in Disney. She sometimes show up in France but the lines are long.”

Amber Likes says her main tip would be “Get there early. And then get there earlier than you think you should.”

The Disney enthusiast in me loves Amber’s advice but the not-a-morning-person does not. Haha!
