Have you ever been excited to do something with your child that you enjoyed as a kid? I live for experiences with my family. We love to go on mini road trips and explore new places. This time we headed to a place I went to as a kid, Crayola Experience in Easton, PA. As a child whether it be in school or at home Crayola is a brand you use quite often for a number of different projects. If your child enjoys coloring and arts and crafts then this is a place for them.
Crayola Experience is not a bad drive from New Jersey. It is actually quite beautiful along the highway no matter what time of year. You will see tons of farm land, streams, and mountains. When arriving there is meter parking on the street as well as a parking garage that is located directly across the street. You can check their website for pricing and other parking options.
There is no missing Crayola Experience building. It is a large building with big crayons out front and a big yellow sign. I wasn’t able to get a picture of the outside unfortunately because it was pouring but I promise you won’t miss it going around the circle that is in front of it. If you go around to the back side of the building there are more large crayons which could be a great spot to stop and take a picture.
I would suggest getting there in the morning when first opening during the week. We went on a rainy Saturday afternoon and it was extremely busy! Before going, do yourself a favor and look at the map of where things are and make a plan. It will make it more enjoyable for everyone so you don’t miss things your children might like. Just a heads up… like most places, you walk through the Crayola Store as you exit so your kids may want to browse. We skipped buying something on our visit because we were able to make a few of our own crayons to take home.
When you first arrive they give you a bag with tokens and a card for free. The tokens are for the Wrap it Up station to make your own crayon wrappers which you get to name, choose an emoji, and wrap the crayon yourself. It was easy to do and my son thought it was neat to name it himself then put it on with the machine. They have quite a few colors you can choose from. They are great souvenirs included with your ticket purchase.
As a family we enjoyed the Silly Selfie area. They had multiple screens and stools setup where they have step by step instructions to create a silly selfie. You can choose from multiple silly things to put on your selfie (eyes, unicorn features, horns, and more). After that you can choose how to animate it and send it off so it appears on a large screen.
They have two separate play areas. One for toddlers and one for children 4 and up. The toddler area had an awesome light up peg board that my son enjoyed. The older kid play area was huge. This was my son’s favorite area but it was so crowded it was hard to keep track of your child so keep this in mind. At the bottom of the play area, you could use chalk on the floors. Off to the side of the play area were tables with different activities. One of them was to make a recycled robot where they had instructions along with supplies needed to create it. Behind that was an area to paint.
Another favorite while there was Water Works located on the 3rd floor. You wait in line and they allow a few children to go up and grab a brown boat and move it through a large water table. They get to push it along the water and use the levees and they have little facts as you go through out it. What kid doesn’t like any sort of water play? Located in the center is a hand washing station for when you are done. We did this station twice and if he could, he would have kept doing it.
There are many other activities throughout Crayola Experience. Kids can color pictures and make them come to life, they can use melted crayons to color things in, you can make drip art, wax hand melts. Just be prepared for lines. A lot of the stations only have a few spots available so it can take some time to be able to do things. You can also eat at Crayola Experience. They have a cafe area, as well as a snack stop.
