Spring cleaning is afoot…a foot full of mud right about now. It’s been raining nonstop, my bedroom is flooded, and it feels like there’s no end in sight. For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been deep cleaning my home. I don’t know how often you deep clean your home but I feel like that refresh and renew is absolutely necessary for that sense of peace I feel in my domain.
While we’re deep spring cleaning in our little homestead, I want to get down to the nitty gritty and talk about our process. There are a lot of things to clean and keep clean when you have five kids and nearly 20 animals. I have recently adopted enzyme-based cleaners into our process, like Biz and Kids ‘N’ Pets.
What are enzymes?
Enzymes are actually produced by bacteria. They break down stain particles like grass, blood, and coffee to eliminate them without the use of harsh chemicals. My favorite thing about enzyme-based cleaners is how natural and non-toxic they are. I definitely need to keep in mind the safety of all of the lives in my home!
Spring laundry
With spring comes rain but also warmer weather, so grass and mud are both headed our way. Enzyme-based cleaners like Biz and Kids ‘N’ Pets make for a perfect laundry pre-treatment so when he gets home from baseball practice, pretreat or soak that grass stain, depending upon the stain’s severity. We’re also using these cleaners for our picnic blankets, filthy shoes, sports uniforms, and our beach towels!
Furniture & Floors
Kids ‘N’ Pets can be used in your carpet cleaning machine, which means that you can tackle your rugs and even your couches with this. I use my carpet cleaning machine on our couches all the time! This includes the upholstery on your dining room chairs from when your toddler ate spaghetti and also, those pesky pet stains on your carpets from when you were litter training those kitties.
Bathroom
I’m sorry because you probably hate cleaning the bathroom as much as I do but somebody’s got to do that dirty job! Cleaning the toilet is a lot easier with some Biz powder and your average toilet scrub brush. Clean the tub and and sinks similarly!
Grout is my least favorite thing in the entire world to clean, because it is STUBBORN. You can make a paste with Biz to clean the tile and grout, just like we did in my kitchen last year! Just make sure that you rinse very thoroughly and quickly, which can be a little tough! We used a mop and bucket and went over it several times with water to rinse but the same can be done with a sponge if you’re working on the walls!
Kids ‘N’ Pets can help to eliminate those gross odors from the bath mat or treat those curtains and towels before you wash them and voila, good as new!
Kitchen
Creating a Biz solution (or sprinkling it onto a wet sponge!) can help to clean and deodorize counters, refrigerators, floors, and even the trash can! Kids ‘N’ Pets can also be used on the floor in the kitchen, anything to get away those harsh stains! The garbage disposal is easiest of all, requiring only that you pour a scoop of Biz into it and then run hot water down the disposal.
The bottom line is that there are a million ways to do your spring cleaning and treat those stains and odors in your house using enzyme-based cleaners instead of harsh chemicals like bleach. You owe it to yourself to try it!

Laundry is OK.
I don’t mind vacuuming I just don’t like to clean the vacuum out when it’s full. Washing and drying clothes is ok, it’s just a bother to put them away. Same with dishes. I don’t mind washing them , it’s the putting them away. Being short makes it a challenge.
