Have you heard of a Mommy: My Dr. Seuss Rhyme

It’s that time again! Read Across America Day! When I was a kid, we used to travel to the local elementary schools and read to the little ones. It was so fun! Dr. Seuss is my absolute favorite and I think that every year, I’ll try to write a rhyme to celebrate him! This year, motherhood was my inspiration. Last year, I wrote about how I was tired of snow and ready for spring. That still applies now, but I thought I should change it up a bit!

Sneetches, The Lorax, and Thing 1 and Thing 2
You’ve heard of these things, but how ’bout one new?
Have you heard of a Mommy?
Oh, no? That’s me.

I’ve a whole many Whos
As far as the eye can see
These little Whos, well, they follow me
Most times I can’t even eat or go pee
I shan’t be alone, the Whos see to that
“She’s pulling my hair” “Mom, look at my hat”
“He took my toy” “See this dance I can do”
“Mommy, I bet I run faster than you”
Lunch time is here, time for peace and quiet
While I gather the laundry and wash it and dry it
Oh but that doesn’t last, they argue some more
And now somebody’s lunch has spilled onto the floor

Only six hours more until Daddy is home
So we settle in and read from our nap tome
A Dr. Seuss book has me reading backwards, up, and sideways
But as long as they’re calm, I’ll read this for days
I finally hear that Z-z-z sound
Carefully I look around
I escape the room a sight unseen
And scoop myself some “Vanilla Bean”
All of a sudden a creak comes behind me
I hide my ice cream hoping no one would see
“May I have some please?”
This tiny Who says.
She bats her Who eyelashes and sticks out her toes
She looks up at me with that cute button nose
I’m caught. I’m found out. Foiled once again.
These Whos they don’t just know what I’ve got, they know when

Like the times I’m snuggled up with my Mr. Who Hubby
And they barge into the room and tell me “I’m hungry”
At bedtime they howl, hoot, and holler
The fits never change, even as they grow taller

But these Whos, they’re a mystical, magical creature
Because despite all of these pains in the butt that they feature
They’re just so amazing, I could eat them up
And all I want to do is immerse them with love.
