He is Risen! The Easter bunny and chocolate eggs are adorable but it’s so important to my husband and I that our family focuses on Jesus and His sacrifice for us. Of course, this doesn’t mean that we have to take away all of the traditional cutesy stuff. The focus can easily be shifted by choosing faith-centered gifts for your child’s Easter basket or even by attaching meaning to some of the typical things you would put inside. I created a fun faith-centered Easter basket list to help make this process a little easier for you!
The Beginner’s Bible Gift Edition – The Beginner’s Bible creates a variety of spectacular Bible books for children but The Beginner’s Bible Gift Edition is your best option for Easter. It’s a special edition of The Beginner’s Bible with beautiful red and gold binding. It contains both the Old and New Testaments, beautiful and vibrant pictures. This edition is much larger than the original, making the text larger and so much easier to read aloud to your babes. It’s amazing for the little ones!
The Beginner’s Bible: The Very First Easter – The Very First Easter is such an ideal Easter book. It tells the story of Jesus and the resurrection in a bright and simple way that is easy for kids to follow. Feel like this truly helps the younger ones to stay focused on Jesus this Easter and to better understand His sacrifice for us.
The Beginner’s Bible: Jesus Saves the World – Jesus Saves the World tells children about the life of Jesus from birth to resurrection. It’s an I Can Read! first reader book so it’s perfect for your new readers to tackle on their own and even read to their siblings. They’ll be so proud! The text is large and not too numerous with big, pretty illustrations. This makes it so much easier for them to handle while also learning about Jesus!
The Beginners Bible: My Bible Friends – My Bible Friends is brand new but I’m very partial to The Beginner’s Bible board books because my four year old loves them. It’s a tabbed board book that features major characters of the Bible via pictured tabs at the top. It’s such a unique idea and so helpful for the littlest ones! (This one comes out April 7th but you can pre-order here.)
Devotional – I absolutely adore daily devotionals. I think it’s an excellent way to keep the kids (and you!) focused on God every day. There are a lot of awesome devotionals out there, including The Beginner’s Bible 365 Devotions for Kids, which contains 365 sweet and simple devotions, takeaways, and scripture references.
Christian music – This is all personal preference but there are so many CDs out there with kids singing versions of popular Christian songs. We still use CDs in my car so my kids love this stuff!
Easter crafts – Crafts are always a hit at my house There are oodles of Bible-focused crafts out there. The Beginner’s Bible is offering a bunch of Easter freebies like devotions, activity sheets, and coloring pages HERE. Or you can play around with regular ones to give them meaning. My husband had the wonderful idea to buy coloring animals two by two, like Noah’s Ark. Get creative!
Peeps – These are such a common treat that you pretty much have to include them in your basket but how can you fit them in? Try Psalm 91:4: He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
Chocolate cross – Ditch the chocolate bunny and find yourself a chocolate cross! Even some of the big brands have started putting out chocolate crosses, which I’m grateful for!
The bunny – Some of us adore hollow chocolate and they only use that in the form of hollow bunnies (me!). If you want to use a bunny, you can still incorporate this into your faith-centered basket using a little tag: “No bunny” loves you like Jesus! I made a little printable that you can save from here:
Christian movies – Christian cartoons make fantastic gifts for your wee ones and I’ve noticed that the stores put out a lot of Easter story ones during the season so keep your eyes peeled!
Journal – I think that every kid should have a prayer journal and you can use just about any simple journal for this, even something from the dollar store!
Jelly beans – My kids actually did this in their old kids’ church. Jelly beans would have a little key to attach specific meaning to each color, like this one I made HERE.
Scripture coloring book – This is an awesome one particularly for the older kids. “Adult coloring” is a big thing now with its more intricate designs, and I know it helps my oldest to feel very relaxed. Plus, you can find so many of these coloring books with encouraging scripture. My oldest plans to hand many of her colored pages on her bedroom wall.
Back to the younger crowd, The Beginner’s Bible Coloring Book and The Beginner’s Bible Come Celebrate Easter Sticker & Activity Book could fill this spot!
Sheep/lamb treat – (Psalm 23:1-3) There are obviously many references to sheep in the Bible because it is so important for us to know that we are the sheep and the Lord is our great Shepherd!
Fish candies – He will make us fishers of men! (Mark 1:16-20, Matthew 4:18-22)
Flowers – We found candy flowers but you could also go with real ones, artificial, or paper depending on the interest of your recipient. In Isaiah and various other parts of the Bible, our faith is compared to a flower in the garden of the Lord. You could even incorporate the basket grass into this and I found some edible grass I absolutely had to use. Real basket grass drives me crazy and seems wasteful so I thought edible made the most sense!
Clothes – If you’re like me and like to use baskets to sneak in a few necessities, know that you can still do that with your faith-themed basket! Romans 13:14 says “Rather, clothe your yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”
Jewelry – With Psalm 119:72, you can slip some jewelry into your basket!
Hair products – We always need scrunchies and headbands for my kids, sometimes cutesy shampoos. Luke 12:7 brings this one in with “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
Art supplies – If you’ve got a little artist or you just want to add to the coloring book we mentioned earlier with a pack of colored pencils or something like that, Ephesians 2:10.
